Protenus Employee Values Spotlight
Protenus Spotlight - Amy Much

Amy Much, General Counsel

At Protenus, the values of Build Trust, Be Human, Live (Em)Powered and Onward Together are baked into all that we do. We continuously look for new and rewarding ways to integrate these values into our work, for the ultimate benefit of employees, customers, and our company.

For December, we are excited to announce that Amy Much, General Counsel, who leads Legal and Compliance at Protenus has been nominated for the Employee Values Spotlight for embodying our shared company values.

Amy is an integral part of Protenus, as General Counsel she handles all matters legal, which includes contracts, IP, and compliance. In addition she provides support and expertise for certain HR items, fund raises, partnerships, banking negotiations, and has been an executive sponsor for the community cohort for the last two years. Amy spends countless hours supporting the sales team, particularly, making sure Protenus contracting turnaround time is never a blocker for a deal. She’s been a great manager and mentor to Alix, and we can’t forget about Amy’s (not so hot) hot seat! Amy is always a joy to work with and in addition to her knowledge and professionalism, she brings a lot of fun and laughter to our team. Thanks for everything you do for Protenus and for showing our values Amy!

Q&A with Amy

What’s your role at Protenus, and what do you do?

I’m the General Counsel for Protenus. As the first legal hire over four years ago, I have built the company’s legal strategy and team from the ground up. I have taken the patent portfolio from zero to eleven at current count. I constantly work to shorten the sales cycle by revising our services agreement to account for our customer’s needs. I also take our culture very seriously and strive to exemplify our values and be a resource for everyone on the team, no matter if what they need is ‘legal’ or not.

What do Protenus’ values mean to you?

I look at the Protenus values not as four distinct items but as a whole. How can I embody all of these things through my actions and words? Protenus is a place that lets me be my authentic self. Leading by example and without fear.

As Protenus celebrates their 10 year anniversary in 2024, what makes you most proud about working at Protenus?

In my life, I have learned to embrace the pivot. Regardless of how organized and thoughtfully mapped out you think your life is going to go, things are going to occur that are unplanned - sometimes it’s a pebble in the stream, sometimes it’s a boulder - and how you pivot and carry on defines you. Protenus has had a lot of rocks in our stream, from pebble to boulder, and we have made it over and around those obstacles. I’m really proud of that.

You’ve served as the Executive Sponsor of our Community Cohort for the past 2 years, can you describe what the Community Cohort is and what your experience has been.

Community Cohort is intended to encourage celebrating our culture. While we do have a team who meet regularly and plan events and awareness campaigns, we are careful to avoid taking away from teammate led initiatives. Protenus has incredible, organic culture and Community Cohort exists to prop that up, not supplant it.

What has surprised you the most about working at Protenus?

I think the biggest surprise has been the level of sophistication of our information security and privacy programs. It is amazing to have complete and total confidence in my compliance partners Brian Reavey (Chief Information Security Officer & Interim Chief Technology Officer) and Teresa Burns (Director of Privacy Operations and Privacy Officer).
