Protenus adds Olga Maltseva Brillman to Growing Team
by Kira Caban, Director of Communications, Protenus on Aug 8, 2017 8:00:00 AM
Baltimore, Md. — Protenus, healthcare’s most robust, analytics-driven solution for protecting patient privacy and preventing health data breaches, today announces the addition of Olga Maltseva Brillman as Vice President of Business Operations.
Protenus uses advanced analytics to identify anomalous behaviors within a hospital’s electronic health records and associated systems. Last month, the company announced a $3M extension of its Series A funding round, led by Kaiser Permanente Ventures with participation from F-Prime Capital Partners and existing investor LionBird Venture Partners.
Protenus detects when individuals inappropriately access patient information by leveraging an array of artificial intelligence techniques to build a comprehensive understanding of clinical and administrative workflows. Since its founding in 2014, Protenus has worked with premier healthcare systems and hospitals across the country, and now protects the privacy of more than 44 million patients.
In July, in response to client demand for additional analytics, Protenus also launched an effort to apply its advanced machine learning platform to a new suite of challenges in healthcare, such as detecting suspected employee theft of prescription opiates. Ms. Brillman will be applying her skill set to these growing initiatives.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Olga through various investment and philanthropic opportunities in the past and I know firsthand how her commitment to compassion and excellence converts into building strong initiatives. We’re very excited to add Olga’s energy and vision to the leadership team at Protenus as we scale our business." said Nick Culbertson, Protenus co-founder and CEO. “Baltimore is a hotbed of talent and we’re fortunate to have recruited such an impressive team to take on the challenges that are currently plaguing healthcare.”
“The Protenus platform offers its partners in healthcare something truly unique: a new way to build trust with patients,” Brillman said. “The last thing patients want to be thinking about is whether their private health information is safe. I’m truly honored to join a team working on such a pivotal challenge, and grateful to the Protenus co-founders for the opportunity to help grow this company. I look forward to seeing every patient, in every community, protected by Protenus.”
Mrs. Brillman was previously Director of Communications for Baltimore-based private equity firm Camden Partners, which focused on seed and growth-stage investments in healthcare, education, software and business services companies. She also served as State Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski during the passage of both the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and more recently, as Chief of Staff for David Warnock's Baltimore mayoral campaign in 2016. She started her career at the nonprofit Strong City Baltimore.
Brillman holds an MBA from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and a bachelor’s degree from Goucher College. She serves as an advisory board member for the Johns Hopkins Social Innovation Lab and is Chair Emeritus of the Board of Directors of Digital Harbor Foundation, a nationwide leader in the maker education movement.
