Our mission at Protenus is to advance the science of healthcare by bringing together creative and skilled individuals who are passionate about the security, usability, and applicability of health data. As this information becomes more voluminous, comprehensive, and, as a consequence, more vulnerable, we are building scalable, insightful solutions that address critical issues preventing the efficient, safe, and effective delivery of patient care.
Our team comprises a diverse group of people who come together to achieve this shared mission. To give a glimpse into our culture and highlight the diversity of our team, we’ve asked Angie Stewart, Content Specialist, to share more about her experience working at Protenus.
As a Content Specialist, I write all kinds of material — blog posts, social blurbs, contributed articles, event abstracts, you name it — on a wide variety of subjects. A lot of the content centers on privacy and patient safety issues in healthcare, but I also develop content highlighting Protenus' workplace culture and business leadership. My biggest project to date is the 2021 Protenus Drug Diversion Digest. I took the lead on analyzing publicly reported drug diversion incidents and developing a story based on the data and trends.
Before coming to Protenus, I was an assistant editor and reporter at Becker's Healthcare, covering the business of surgery centers and specialties popular in the outpatient setting: orthopedics, gastroenterology, anesthesia, etc. My prior experience also includes a research assistantship at Crain's Chicago Business and a summer internship at the Chicago Sun-Times.
When I found out Protenus had an opening for a health IT content writer, I thought it would be a fascinating next step in my career because health IT issues have been rising in prevalence and importance for years. Initially, I was impressed by Protenus' empathetic, intelligent and technology-driven approach to some of the biggest threats to patients' safety and livelihoods. Then, it became clear that Protenus also nurtured an authentic, empowering work environment, and I was sold. Joining Protenus was such an easy decision to make.
Learning from all the extraordinarily talented and exceptionally kind people who work here.
Protenus is very flexible and does not impose one "right" way of getting your work done. This has given me the opportunity to really explore how I work best and what I need to be successful. I've learned that the projects that require me to go furthest outside my comfort zone are almost always the projects that are the most rewarding.
I've never worked in an environment that values each employees' opinions, ideas and contributions more than Protenus does. Working here gives me the opportunity to apply and build upon all the skills I've acquired up to this point, while opening my eyes to the possibilities that lay ahead in my professional journey.
Authenticity, transparency, and humility aren't just buzzwords at Protenus. These values are intentionally infused at all levels and in all aspects of the company. In developing content for placement in outside publications, I have regular conversations with Nick, our CEO, about the rationale and strategy behind our company culture, and I'm blown away by Protenus' leadership in cultivating an empowering work environment. I'm grateful to play a role in letting the world know more about it.
Flexible, inspiring, and personally fulfilling.
